Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of sexual harassment and coping behaviors among caregivers in nursing homes.

Methods: Participants were 198 caregivers who worked in nursing homes in Gwangju city and Chonnam Province. Major variables for this study were sexual harassment experience and behavior for coping with sexual harassment. Data were collected from July to September 2012 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, Kruskal Wallis test and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS 19.0.

Results: There were statistically significant differences in nursing home caregivers for sexual harassment experience according to presence of spouse, total number of beds, form of employment, and level of sex education, and for behavior for coping with sexual harassment, there were differences according to age and level of sex education. Levels of sexual harassment experiences were ranked as visual sexual harassment, verbal sexual harassment, and physical sexual harassment in that order. The level of behavior for coping with sexual harassment was higher in active coping than passive coping.

Conclusion: The results indicate that to minimize sexual harassment damage and actively cope with it, program development for caregivers in nursing home on appropriate coping with sexual harassment is necessary.
